Room “Apollo”

At THE GROVE you have the choice between four rooms, each individually appointed and lightly themed after Greek deities of nature. Local artwork adorns the rooms, which are naturally cooled, heated, ventilated and insulated. The artificial river stream in front of the guest units cools the interior spaces and invites guests to enjoy a bath in privacy. The board-marked concrete walls in combination with stones from the excavation site imbue the interior with a natural yet contemporary feel, while integrating local features for the “Cretan touch”.
Room “PERSEPHONE” honours the vegetation goddess whose yearly ascend from the underworld sets spring in motion. Green and gold are her colours, representing plants and grains.
Room “ARTEMIS” is inspired by the goddess of the hunt, the animals and the moon. In the pantheon, silver is ascribed to her. A local artist painted her symbol, the deer that adorns one of the walls.
Room “PAN” is dedictated to the god of groves, of the wilderness and of shepherds. To represent him, wood was chosen for the design elements, as well as an abstract painting of the flute that bears his name.
Room “APOLLO” is the largest room and celebrates the god of the sun, twin brother of Artemis. His colour is pure white, as reflected in the room’s interior. Apollo invented the lyre, illustrated in the room’s painting.
Each room features a king size bed, two of them can house an additional guest on a sleeper sofa. The units are equipped with luxurious amenities that leave nothing to be desired, all sustainably sourced where applicable:

The Property
THE GROVE is located a 15-minutes drive from the beach town of Agios Pavlos and 25 minutes from the resort town of Agia Galini. The traditional mountain villages of Saktouria and Melambes are 15 and 25 minutes away on a scenic road along the coast and through the hills. THE GROVE provides access to some of Crete’s most beautiful and quiet beaches, for example the tucked-away Prassonisi (6 minutes away) and the secluded cove of Aniforas (10 minutes) with its emerald green waters.
The property is the only one in the vicinity. Apart from sea birds and sheep we share our space with nobody else. THE GROVE is built into a slope that allows for uninterrupted 180° views of the entire coast, including the uninhabited Paximadia islands. The lonely little church Agios Ioannis above the property and a nearby shack that was used by Greek generals in WWII root THE GROVE in culture and history.
The hotel itself consists of the four guest rooms and a common interior space with dining area, fireplace, record player and other entertainment facilities. The heart of the property is the outside space surrounding the dark blue pool. It includes the sunken seating area with a fire pit for evening gatherings, a pool bar, a bbq space and an outdoor dining space. The surrounding olive grove, orchard and vegetable garden provide the food that is served and hide an event space for weddings and birthday celebrations. It can be explored on a nature trail.
